Fear is perhaps the most prevailing emotion associated with divorce. Fear of change, fear of the future, fear of being alone, fears for your children, and the list goes on. Fear rattles your cage and makes you desperate for a sense of security.
Divorce gives us plenty of reasons to fear. Fear is a brutal master.
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father.’ For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” Romans 8: 15-16
Human fear is a normal reaction to uncertainty and divorce is certainly full of that. Yet, as Christians we have a powerful weapon to combat fear–The Holy Spirit.
When circumstances get us down it is so easy to forget the power that is within us to battle the fears we feel. As Christians our spirits have joined with God’s Spirit. We can cry out “Abba, Father” to God and ask that his Holy Spirit alleviate our fears and settle our nerves.
Ask God to carry your burdens. Since you’re a human you may find it hard to let go of your fears. But, trying to find peace on your own pretty much assures that peace will be allusive.
Keep giving your fears to God as many times as you must until you let go completely. Choose to rest at peace in God’s protective care. Ask the Holy Spirit to set you free of fear.
